Buying a Musical Instrument

Buying a beginner musical instrument for your or your child can be incredibly confusing and can take lots of research, particularly if you have no prior experience of playing an instrument.

Below is a list of beginner instruments we would recommend for new/young learners. Its always worth keeping an eye on facebook market place for instruments for sale locally and if you need any advice then please let Meg know.

Guitar

For agaes 7-12 we recommend 3/4 or 'mini' models with shorter scale length, slimmer necks and lighter bodies which are much easier for younger kids to play.

We have experience with the Fender Squire Mini Stratocaster but Ibanez is a good brand you could look at too.

From ages 10 up a standard size electric guitar is fine for kids as they do tend to have slim necks, however, they can be heavy so its worth checking the weight or even trying a few at a music shop  before making a decision.

Bass Guitar

At CAMM we use the Ibanez GIO ultra shortscale bass for kids and adults alike! They are great instruments and very easy to play.

A full size bass guitar is suitable for mid-teens up.
